Why Do Some People Like Morning Sex?

Question: What are the best time of day to have sex? I would assume it's different for everyone but there may be certain times that are better than others. Can you explain?


Whether you're into morning sex, afternoon delight, or sex before bed - there are real reasons why you might enjoy sexy time at certain times of the day.

The mornings do some interesting things to the body

When your body is just waking up your synapses are not running on full gear. You know, when you feel groggy and your mind is foggy. This includes your body, too. Your body is still in “resting mode” and isn’t feeling sexual sensation the way it does when you’re fully awake and alert. You nerve endings are sleeping!

Perks for not being fully awake yet can vary. For the most part, it can be nice to still feel super relaxed and cuddly when you first wake up in the morning. Receiving oral sex or sex with a sex toy or hand can be nice for some people when they first wake up because their pelvic floor isn't contracting from stress and their heart-rate is lower, which can assist in letting go and feeling more pleasure. This won't be the case for everyone, but if you're curious about it - it could be worth trying.

Why some people are into morning sex

This usually happens when you've woken up naturally our of a REM cycle and are feeling rested. For "morning people," this is usually what's going on. It means you likely have a restful sleep pattern and therefore are rested and ready to go in the mornings. This is assisted by regular bedtimes and regular wake-up times, keeping your sleep schedule consistent. It can also be affected by genes. Some people are prone to being geared towards wakefulness in the mornings, but (as we all know) most of us aren't. 

Why other people are into sex at night

The old saying goes, “Never go to bed angry.” We think you should go to bed sexually satisfied. Orgasms are a one-way ticket to sound sleep. 

After an amazing sex session and orgasm, your brain releases a cocktail of feel-good hormones such as serotonin and oxytocin. Oxytocin, also known as the “Love Hormone,” creates feelings of pair bonding. Studies have shown that oxytocin is a key component in the creation of feelings of love.

Releasing this hormone right before bed will leave you with positive feelings about your partner -- which you then take into dream world (aka: Your subconscious). Obviously sex right before bed isn’t the cure-all for tumultuous partnerships, but it can be a helpful factor if you’re looking to shift your mindset towards a more positive tract. 

It can give you something to look forward to. Adding sex into the regular routine will allow it to stop being cumbersome and make it exciting. It will give you something to look forward to at the end of a hard day, which will make you excited to see your partner. When the two of you have this intimate activity on the books a few nights per week, it will bring you closer to each other.
